The scariest thing about acne is not acne itself. The scars that are left behind are almost as unattractive as the pimples on your skin. Acne that is treated immediately usually doesn’t leave scars but acute cases of acne can leave holes on your skin. Getting rid of acne scars is sometimes more difficult and more expensive to treat than acne itself. There are different types of scars and treatments vary depending on the level of damage the scars have created on your skin.

Acne is difficult to understand sometimes and leaving it alone is better than invading it with treatments. There are treatments that can encourage pimples to appear and teenagers mostly make this kind of mistake. Instead of letting the acne take its course, it is forced to fight back and spread with invasive treatments. Once acne becomes severe, scars can form and new batches of pimples will keep on appearing. There’s a wide range of scar treatments available, through therapy or creams, but you have to understand that some scars will be left permanently on your skin.

One of the most recommended scar treatments is dermabrasion. In this treatment, old skin is removed to expose fresh tissues. After the wound has healed, fresh skin takes over without the scars. Another scar treatment similar to dermabrasion is microdermabrasion. This time, a suction tool is used where dermabrasion use abrading tool. Punch excision is another form of scar treatment. This is done by cutting out the scar and letting the skin nearby cover it until it completely heals. For shallow scars, subcision is done to eliminate them. In subcision, the upper layer of the skin is uprooted from the tissue to allow blood to flow. When it is completely healed, the skin will elevate, eliminating the scar entirely. Laser resurfacing is also another popular scar treatment. The upper layer of the skin is removed by using laser to attain smoother skin. This can be very expensive and a lot of people complain that the scar resurfaces, anyway.

If the above treatments prove to be too aggressive for you, you can scout for scar creams and balms. But the problem with these products is that they don’t seem to work for a lot of people. What’s more they are also very expensive and unlike therapy, they don’t produce immediate result. But if your scars aren’t that deep, creams with cocoa butter and Vitamin E can help eliminate them. You would have to be persistent with this treatment to achieve desired result.

Getting rid of acne scars is hard to do but it is not impossible to achieve. Look for treatment that can give you long-term effects and do not be swayed by popular advertisements. Consult a doctor and go for treatments that you’re most comfortable with.
